Most consumers cannot afford to spend over $2,000 on a VR headset, and Pimax Crystal Super 8K's impressive resolution is kind of an overkill for watching and playing VR porn content. However, if you are looking for the best possible VR image quality, why not go for it?
Featuring SLAM tracking (beautifully explained by Pimax's engineers in their video), advanced eye and hand tracking, and compatibility with other Pimax products, the Crystal Super 8K is the kind of product that will not disappoint even the most demanding buyers. The only technical shortcoming is the refresh rate (up to 90 Hz only), but it's far from a dealbreaker. When it comes to Pimax, price is usually the main concern.
But hey, you wouldn't buy a $5,000 Gibson Custom if you're just learning to play the guitar, right? The same applies to Pimax Crystal Super 8K. If you're new to VR, only want to have some fun with cool VR porn and games, or are running on a tight budget, we suggest going for a more affordable option.

Best VR headset for image quality and overall technical specs, ranked sixth due to the high price
Selling for over $2,300, the Pimax Crystal Super 8K is not just expensive: it's an outright luxurious experience… But is it really that good? And how does it compare to headsets costing over half the price? Find out in our Pimax Crystal Super 8K review!

Testing the Pimax Crystal Super 8K was surprising for good and bad reasons. Here's our sincere take on the VR headset:
The Pimax Crystal Super 8K has 3840 x 3552 resolution and relies on micro-OLED displayers to reproduce visuals with an almost eerie level of sharpness and detail. As a result, the Super 8K has higher pixel density (i.e., more pixels per inch) than pretty much every other headset on the market.
Micro-OLED is more detailed than OLED because its light-emitting source reflects on silicone rather than glass. In addition to more pixels, this technology also improves contrast and response.
Unfortunately, the Super 8K exemplifies why having better gear and specs doesn't necessarily mean you have the best VR headset. Weirdly enough, Pimax has created a product that's so high-definition it is almost too good for the majority of available VR videos and games!
The main problem? Users can experience issues such as chromatic aberration and warping , especially if they're using the Super 8K outside the Pimax ecosystem. Also, it's important to note passthrough isn't supported, which is borderline shocking considering the product's high price.
Weighing 900 grams, the Pimax Crystal Super 8K is considerably heavier than its competitors — the Meta Quest 3S, for example, only weighs 515 grams. However, anyone can use the Super 8K comfortably by taking the necessary time to adjust the product's strap and foam.
While playing VR games with a headset that weighs almost one kilo is not ideal, Pimax has at least managed to build a solid, high-quality product by snubbing standard weight requirements.
However, it misses the mark once more (especially for such an expensive option) by:
Here are some important extra considerations:
When you pay over $2k for a VR headset, you're entitled to expect the best. But while the Pimax Crystal Super 8K provides the most advanced viewing experience available to users, it simply misses out on too many ends to justify its high cost. Moreover, it seems to either ignore or not care at all about VR gamers despite having nice eye and hand tracking.
If you're a VR superfan who's dying to know how visually detailed the next generation of headsets is going to be, the Super 8K is the sneak peek you're probably dreaming of. If that's not the case, we recommend you spend your money somewhere else.
